Shar's Arabic Look Contest

Shar is holding a contest for reaching 100 followers. So yay, congratulations, Shar! I decided I'd join this contest (I'm supposed to be doing homework but gasp, not in the mood!) because it was a fun idea and to be honest I always missed chances to do an Arabic look. So I looked up Arabic looks online to see what I could learn about the general aesthetic, and I came up with a look.

First of all, here are the rules of the contest, taken from Shar's blog post:

Theme:
Create an Arabic Style Inspired Makeup. From what I noticed, when I google 'Arabic Style Makeup', They usually have flawless, porcelain-like skin, and really bright colors on the eyes yet it still looks smokey because of the heavy eyeliner on both the lashline and lower lashline.

Rules & Requirements:
·First of all you must be a member of blogger.
·You must be a follower of my blog.
·Post as an entry to your blog. Copy these rules onto your entry and link back to this post.
[To copy, highlight and then press ctrl+c, right click has been disabled]
·Take a picture of: Your face, one with your eyes opened and one closed. And a freestyle pose. ·Also include your inspirational photo, if any. Don't forget to list down and take a picture of the products you used.
·Send in your contest entry url as a comment to this post only [for organizational purposes].
All others will not be aknowledged, sorry!

Deadline:
August 15, 2009 11:59 PM Guam Time - That's about 3 weeks from now, so you have plenty of time.
Note: Guam time is advance a few hours from U.S.

Winner Selection:
There will be two winners, also open to international.
My boyfriend will help judge but the decision is still mine.
Your overall creativity, skills, techniques used as well as the ability to abide by the rules will be a factor in determining the winner. Props, Hair and Outfit is a plus : )

I really had fun doing this contest, even though my skin wasn't behaving really well. Which wasn't really good considering one of the things Shar mentioned was that Arabic people usually have "flawless, porcelain skin". LOL.

So, Shar required three pictures. One with my eyes open, one with them closed, and a 'freestyle' pose. It was hard picking just three pictures, but these are what I think are the best:

I forgot to fix the veil. x.x Sigh!

What I used:
Face Cinema Secrets Special Effects oil-free moisturizing lotion (as base), MAC studio fix powder foundation in NC35, Physician's Formula bronzer as contour, Ellana Minerals finishing powder in espresso con panna, Ellana Minerals concealers in awake and smile

Cheeks Unbranded blush

Lips Revlon Matte Lipstick in Mauve It Over

Eyes Art Deco eyeshadow base, ELF brightening eyeliner in Black (brows), Coastal Scents 88 palette, Elianto shimmering eyeshadow in white, Avon quad, Coastal Scents gel eyeliner, Kinepin false eyelashes
Well, that's all! Here's one last picture, just cause I wanted it in but couldn't make it part of the official pics.

Thank you again to Shar for holding this contest, I had loads of fun and I definitely did my best! :) I hope you all liked it. *heads off to read blogs*

You know you're a Filipino When...

So, the sweet sweet Cheysser of http://mszcheysser.blogspot.com/ is having a contest for her Filipino readers. I think this is super awesome (of course since I live in the Philippines--LOL!), and she is just so thoughtful because she is holding her contest for us since she understands it's hard to get some cosmetic products here.

Her rules are:

So what are the requirements?

01. You must be a follower of my blog, of course!
02. You must be in the country of the Philippines.
03. You must be able to get a package from USPS.

So what's the contest?

01. In your blog, list down
5 things that you enjoy about being a Filipina/Filipino
5 things that about being a Filipino
5 values that you keep as a Filipino
5 stereotypes that represent you (Pointing with your lips, when you give directions)
Talk about one filipino celebrity that you admire
Pick any one of them! I'M NOT SAYING TO TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING. That's too much. =P

02. Be creative, add pictures/videos e.t.c
03. Link me in your blog! :)

How do you win?

01. I will be judging - and I will ask 1-2 other fellow bloggers from Guam to help me!

What are the prizes?

01. In my package, I will include products from NYX (Mainly, because this is the most common thing that I get comments about) and "Insert SECOND common Drug Store Brand in here".

** Please comment me, telling me which drug store brand that you are having a hard time finding in the Philippines, as well. If you are the winner, I will shop for your prize. :) And also, that you're entering in my contest! LOL.

IF YOU'RE CREATIVE...

And create a look with the Philippines' flag color, I will include a GRAND PRIZE. That is if you win.

WHEN DOES THIS END?

I would like to end this on June 7, 2009, so that I can send the package with my parents when they go to the Philippines but date might change to June 30, 2009 if I decide to just send it with USPS. I will let you know. =)

PS:
Sorry that I will not be able to provide High-end prizes - I'm being realistic! I need some more of those myself, lol. xD

PSS:
Just to let the public know, I don't mind how many people join. It could be 1 or it could be 100, I just want to help someone without having to swap - I just did a different approach. & It's a great way to learn know more about the ladies. [Edited 8:51pm of 05/22]

So, for today...I've got for you some stereotypes that represent Filipinos. I don't mean to offend any Filipinos, at all, of course! This is just for fun. And these are just some of my observations.

All images are by me! Drawn mediocre-ly in Photoshop. LOL.

1)
To some people, one word could mean many things. For example, take the word "pail". Pail could mean "bucket". It could also mean...well--if you were sending a message on your phone and there was no signal--message sending pailed. It could also be, "Oh no, you pail!" (Fell). Or...it could be, "baby you know how I pail about you..." And many other things. The many dialects and languages in the Philippines gives people many different accents...thus the many meanings of one thing.

2) Funny Signs! I'm not making fun of anyone...it's just amusing sometimes to see such ironic signs. These signs are scattered all over the city--either on storefronts or painted on walls... But yes. I don't have actual pictures, but I think you might find the following rather amusing:

3) Referring to stuff using brand names. When some Filipinos refer to things, most often than not, we refer to them in brand names. For example, when buying at sari-sari stores (convenience stores), instead of asking for toothpaste, we say, Can I buy some Colgate? Or, instead of saying "felt tip pen", we refer to all of them in general as "Pentel pen". When we take pictures, instead of saying "let's pose for a few pictures", we say "mag-Kodakan tayo" (Note the use of Kodak).

4). Using landmarks instead of street signs to get around. Knowing how things are in the Philippines, you'd be very lucky to find an intact street sign. Usually, street signs' paint are peeling, or...well, practically unreadable due to small size. My mom once told me that at her job there was this messenger...and just randomly at some point in time he got lost. Why?

Instead of reading street signs, he had an empty lot as a landmark to know what street he was on. So when something got built on that lot...well--he got lost.

5) Filipinos most probably have a cross-stitched work of The Last Supper in their house.

6) Filipinos nod with their eyebrows. It's complicated to explain.. but a quick raise of both eyebrows could mean 'yes', or it could be an acknowledgement if you see someone you know in the hall.

7) They bathe with a pail and a dipper (tabo). Well...that's how they do it old school. :P Now everyone's starting to get into the trend of electric shower heaters and all...but bathing with a pail and a dipper is so much more convenient and faster! Not to mention it conserves water more.

8) Don't want to buy too much of one thing? That's okay...everything here can be found in 'tingi'. Want just a tiny bit of detergent? Buy a sachet! Want some shampoo and conditioner for your trip? Buy sachets! Want facial wash? Don't want to commit? Buy a sachet!

9) The use of "HOY" and "PSST" to get someone's attention.

10) The Filipino "give me the bill" gesture. One calls for a waiter/waitress, holds up one or both hands, and makes a rectangle with forefinger/s and thumb/s.

11) Most Filipinos probably have an uncle named "Boy" and an aunt named "Baby" or "Girlie".

Whew!! That's all I could think of at the moment. Sorry, haha. I know it said 5 things but I couldn't resist! So. I also created a look for this using the colors of the Philippine flag. I didn't stop there, of course, I also created a 'nail-do' using the Philippine flag colors. :) Here is the 'nail-do' first.

Those are yellow stars on my nails (on top of the red part). I'm a nail-art noobie. :(

And the look (used mostly my usual face products, PAC palette and VOV yellow e/s. Ellana mineral blush in Lust and just ELF super glossy lip shine for lips)

Swatching and practice-blending on my hand. It was so hard deciding what to do!! Settled on using a white pencil eyeliner from PAC as a base...bad idea. :/ But things turned out okay! (Even though it's not very wearable...)

Camwhore time. >.>

LOL

Thanks for reading, lovelies! :)

Ever Ever After (contest entry)

I remember watching Enchanted ages ago and going, WOW, Queen Narissa's makeup is amazing. And back then I didn't even know what the heck the outer v or the crease was...never liked blush, never liked lipstick, and never knew eye shadow primers existed. Haha. Wow, seems like such a long time ago, even though it hasn't really been that long.

I used Queen Narissa as an inspiration for Sarah's Disney Contest mainly because she is a cool villain. And she has great makeup, come on! Lol. I really think though that her character made the movie, even if Disney has this entire thing with the stepmothers as villains going on. And Susan Sarandon in the role was perfect. :)

This was my inspiration picture

What I used.
Face: MAC Studiofix powder foundation in NC35, Ellana Oil Absorbing Finishing Powder in espresso con panna, generic blush (LOOK, I HIT PAN!!!), Ellana concealer in awake and smile
Eyes: Art Deco eyeshadow Base, PAC palette, LA colors metallic e/s in Mesmerize (just the blue), Jesse's Girl eye dust in troublemaker, Elianto Shimmer eyeshadow in Ivory, Aido glitter e/s or powder in silver, Coastal Scents Gel Eyeliner, Kinepin falsies and my new HG mascara - Maybelline Volum' Express cat eyes mascara, PAC white eyeliner on the waterline
Lips: Trucco pro lip pencil in blood, ELF super glossy lip shine on top

Eyes close up:

Now I know I don't look much like a villain in those pictures...I couldn't pull a villain face without laughing at myself in the mirror! Lol. So instead this is what I did:

(Might be scary but I only did these posts cause I'm portraying a villain! :D)

I was afraid I'd end up lighting myself on fire!! Hehe.

Well, that's it for my contest entry. Hope you liked it! Hugs and kisses~

Basically, you take the following inspiration pictures:

and make looks based on them. More inspiration pictures can be found here: http://www.fotosearch.com/asiastock/chinese-costume-make-up/UNA297/

*No need to make your face white with makeup, that's such a waste of product! But if you do it, that's a plus. :)

So how do you join? Just read the following rules:

1) Must be a follower of both blogs (http://cosmeticfixation.blogspot.com and http://royalcoconut.blogspot.com) so if you're not a follower yet, click follow! ;) Yes, we will be checking.

2) The look must be new, no old photos from other contests--the look should have been made for the sole purpose of this contest.  Also, put your own twist on the look! :D

3) No need to do a step-by-step, but you must take a picture of what you used and tell us what they are (product breakdown). Take at least 3 full-face pictures and 2 close-ups of your makeup's best feature (eyeshadow or if you drew a design, then your design). Full-body pics and dressing up is optional, not required.

4) Post your look on your blog with both our links on the post (http://royalcoconut.blogspot.com and http://cosmeticfixation.com).

5) Send us an e-mail at royalfixation@gmail.com with the picture of what you used (along with product breakdown), 3 full-face pictures and 2 close-ups. You can include more pics if you want. Also send us the link to your blog.

6) Must be over the age of 18 or have parental consent otherwise because we will be asking for your address for the prizes.

The contest starts today and ends May 24th. Winner will be announced May 31st. :) It is open internationally, but please be aware that our post office sucks so it'll take a while for you to get your prize.

Gia and I are still talking about prizes, so we'll let you know what they will be soon. We're hoping at least 10 people will join to make it a fun contest... so give it a shot! We can't wait to see what you have for us. :)

Spring Look Contest

Why yes, another one!! I decided I would try my hand at all the contests I could since mostly this is the only way (and/or best way) for me to practice my skills. I don't wear makeup out just yet and I doubt I'd be able to wear the crazy looks I do out in public, so...contest contest!

This look in particular, for me, is actually pretty wearable. I'd wear it in public if I had the chance, or during a special occasion. It's actually quite surprising, in a pleasant way, to realize that pink looks good on me too. I used to think that red is the only lipcolor that looks okay on me and peach tones are the only good blushes on my cheeks. I don't know, what do you think about the look I did? Does the pink look okay on me?

Moving on, this spring look is for Chyix2's contest. I had fun with this cause I played around with colors I never would have gotten to use otherwise (I'm all for the neons/brighter colors!).

This is step by step so there will be quite a bit of pictures...but I resized them and made them smaller! :) Next time I'll be sure to make them even smaller in file size.

What I used:
FACE: The Face Shop makeup primer in green, Ellana intense coverage foundation in Hazelnut Latte, Ellana finishing powder in espresso con panna, Ellana mineral concealer in smile
CHEEKS: Aziza blush/highlighter duo, PAC e/s in brown for contour
LIPS: Aziza lipstick (shade got erased), ELF lipgloss on top
EYES: Art Deco Eyeshadow Base, Elianto single shimmer e/s in ivory, PAC palette, Coastal Scents 88 palette, VOV eyeshadow in yellow, Elianto stay-on eyeliner, Aido eye putti + No brand falsies

1) Apply the Elianto Shimmer e/s in Ivory wet over both lids. This will serve as base to make the colors pop better.

2) Apply yellow (I used PAC + VOV) in the inner corners of the eyes

3) Apply pink in the middle part of the eye lids

4) Take a purple and blend it into the outer V and crease. Also, take a darker shade to emphasize the crease even more. Blend blend blend!

5) Get some green and put it under your eye below the waterline

6) Line eyes - Sorry my eyes are red, still fighting off a cold!

7) Apply light shimmer yellow from 88 palette to highlight under the brow

8) Mascara

9) Contour and blush

10) Fill in brows

11) Lipstick + lipgloss!

Here is what we have so far:

12) Apply falsies! For this I used green/blue/purple falsies but it's not so visible.

FINISHED LOOK

CLOSE UP OF THE E/S
