Ube Keso inspired EOTD + Tutorial

Ube keso is a delicacy here in my country. I can't exactly explain what it is, but it's really yummy (although not exactly a favorite of mine). But while I was at the mall earlier today, I saw a picture of this while I was passing by a fast food place and decided that I needed to do a look with purple and yellow in it. It's a pretty color combination, after all! It oddly enough works with eyeshadow, too. So I decided I'd do a tutorial as well.

**** After some research I found out that ube is purple yam. :) (and of course, keso is cheese). Here is a wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ube

For this EOTD/FOTD, I used mostly Shawill products (if you recall I featured Shawill on my blog recently).

This will be the finished look:

For this, I used the following:

FACE Celeteque Moisturizer, The Face Shop primer in green (used for red spots only), Ellana Minerals concealer in Smile, MAC Studio Fix in NC35, Mineraux foundation and Mineraux neutral mineral veil
CHEEKS ELF bronzer in warm tan, ELF illuminizer (I forgot what it's called), Shawill blush
EYES Art Deco eyeshadow base, Shawill palette #1, Dollface Cosmetics 28 neutral palette, ELF transparent brow gel/mascara, ELF eye brightening pencil eyeliner in coffee, Maybelline eyeliner in black, Maybelline Volum' Express Cat Eyes mascara
LIPS PAC lipstick in misty brown, Shawill lip gloss

We will be using colors (in order) 9, 3, 12, 7

If you desire, start by priming your eyelids to make your eyeshadow more vibrant, and to prevent it from creasing or fading. For this step, I used Art Deco eyeshadow base.

For the next step, take your favorite eyeshadow brush (I used elianto's angled eyeshadow brush) and get color 9, applying a wash all over the eyelids.

Then, using the same brush, pick up color 3 and place on outer corner, blending into yellow and bringing it inwards around the crease and socket.

Taking color 12 with a crease brush or a small domed brush for precise application (I used Sembem/Life & Companion's crease brush), apply over outer v and bring into crease, concentrating color on the outer corner. Blend blend blend!

Using the same brush, get color 7 and apply as a highlight on inner corners. If desired, get an eyeshadow brush and pick up some of color 4, layering over the purple in order to create a better gradient effect.

For the next step I used my Dollface Cosmetics palette (28 neutral). I used color 2C, taking a fluffy eyeshadow brush to apply as highlight under my eyebrow, blending into purple color.

For eyeliner, I took a thin, stiff-bristled brush (I was using an EcoTools brush), taking some of color 12 from the Shawill palette and using it to line my upper eyelids. I used the same brush to apply color 9 and 3 on my lower eyelids, letting them meet in the middle. I lined my waterline with Maybelline eyeliner in black.

Curled lashes and applied mascara on upper/lower lashes...and we're done! :D

The finished look:

Tada! I hope you liked my tutorial! :D

It's been rainy! FOTD + Daily Staple 07/16/09

It's the rainy season here again! Technically here in the Philippines, we have two seasons. Wet and Dry. Obviously wet is the rainy season. When it's the rainy season you can practically expect for it to be raining everyday! That's why I never leave the house without my trusty umbrella. :) It's such a hassle to get caught in rain after all, but then I digress.

Today I decided to procrastinate and take a moment to relax, and what better way to do it than....you guessed it!! Playing with makeup! :D I felt like making a gloomy look because it's so rainy and all and a lot of people are stuck at home. Man, I've grown quite rusty with the eye makeup! I guess that's what happens when you take a break for more than a month without practicing at all (at school the most I usually wear is foundation, mascara, lipstick/balm/gloss and when I'm feeling daring, blush). I came up with a simple wearable look.

look at me pulling a stupid face. LOL

And of course, I have a tutorial. :) Well, more like a step-by-step since I don't remember going into detail... x.x

What I used:
FACE Celeteque moisturizer as base, PAC two-way powder foundation applied with a wet sponge, Ellana Minerals finishing powder in espresso con panna
CHEEKS Ever Bilena powder blush in Raisin
LIPS Revlon Matte lipstick in Mauve It Over
EYES Art Deco eyeshadow base, coastal scents 88 palette, Victoria's Secret beauty rush luminous shadow in after midnight, Dollface gel eyeliner in black, Maybelline volum express cat eyes mascara waterproof in black

Let's get started! :) First prime your eyelids with a good eyeshadow primer or base (this step is optional).

Colors used: Click to enlarge

1) highlighter
2) all over lid
3&4) blended out over crease and outer v, brought inwards

Here are the next few steps:

Pat color 2 all over lid and pack on color
Using a blending brush or crease brush, bring color 3 inwards, emphasizing the outer V and the crease
Go over the same area with color 4 (black), blend out
Highlight under eyebrow and in the inner corner of eyes with color 1
With a thin/small angled brush, apply color 3 on lower lashline (apply white eyeliner on waterline-optional)
apply eyeliner and mascara

That's pretty much it. :) Of course after that I just put my lipstick on. I used Revlon Matte lipstick in Mauve It Over -- it's the 2nd lipstick I've ever bought for myself and it is currently my favorite. This item has definitely become a daily staple for me, I can't even think about leaving the house without this on (sometimes though I do substitute for other lipsticks...don't want to look the same everyday after all!). Personally I think that mauve it over is a good nude pink.

So here's a mini review on it:
Pros:
  • Affordable, considering the quality (475 php for 4.2g)
  • Nice, sleek and matte packaging
  • Pigmented, Good color payoff
  • Smooth-textired, easy to apply over lips unlike some other matte lipsticks
  • Really matte
  • Long-wearing
  • Good range of shades to choose from (matte collection)
  • NON-DRYING

    Cons:
  • Can sometimes make your lips look very dry
  • Cannot be applied (or at least, shouldn't be) over chapped lips

    Tips:
  • Apply a light coat of lipbalm before applying the lipstick to make it glide better if you feel like you are having a hard time with it
  • Make sure your lips are moisturized/not chapped prior to application (to make sure I put lip balm on every night and in the morning while I am doing my routine)
  • Wear gloss over it if your lips look dry (although this defeats the purpose of it being matte)

Now that that's done, here are a few more photos of my finished look. :)

  • That's it for today, everyone! Hope you have a good Thursday/Friday!!

    Ever Ever After (contest entry)

I remember watching Enchanted ages ago and going, WOW, Queen Narissa's makeup is amazing. And back then I didn't even know what the heck the outer v or the crease was...never liked blush, never liked lipstick, and never knew eye shadow primers existed. Haha. Wow, seems like such a long time ago, even though it hasn't really been that long.

I used Queen Narissa as an inspiration for Sarah's Disney Contest mainly because she is a cool villain. And she has great makeup, come on! Lol. I really think though that her character made the movie, even if Disney has this entire thing with the stepmothers as villains going on. And Susan Sarandon in the role was perfect. :)

    This was my inspiration picture

    What I used.
Face: MAC Studiofix powder foundation in NC35, Ellana Oil Absorbing Finishing Powder in espresso con panna, generic blush (LOOK, I HIT PAN!!!), Ellana concealer in awake and smile
Eyes: Art Deco eyeshadow Base, PAC palette, LA colors metallic e/s in Mesmerize (just the blue), Jesse's Girl eye dust in troublemaker, Elianto Shimmer eyeshadow in Ivory, Aido glitter e/s or powder in silver, Coastal Scents Gel Eyeliner, Kinepin falsies and my new HG mascara - Maybelline Volum' Express cat eyes mascara, PAC white eyeliner on the waterline
Lips: Trucco pro lip pencil in blood, ELF super glossy lip shine on top

    Eyes close up:

Now I know I don't look much like a villain in those pictures...I couldn't pull a villain face without laughing at myself in the mirror! Lol. So instead this is what I did:

(Might be scary but I only did these posts cause I'm portraying a villain! :D)

I was afraid I'd end up lighting myself on fire!! Hehe.

Well, that's it for my contest entry. Hope you liked it! Hugs and kisses~

    Playing around and tagging!

I was bored today, so I was just playing around with eyeshadow. I decided not to do a full face because I'm letting my face rest from all the stuff I've been putting on it, so all I've had on today was moisturizer.

I had loads of fun playing with e/s! I used my PAC palette and MAC's Bagatelle..as primer and base I used Art Deco eyeshadow base and Elianto Shimmer e/s in Ivory (applied wet). For the highlight I used my Coastal Scents 28 neutral palette. I don't know if you can see it, but the highlight e/s has a pretty green irridescence.

You know, I realized that for me Art Deco works much better than UDPP... I mean it's easier to apply, no drying time, blending is easier, e/s practically has no fallout, lasts all day without creasing and oiling up!

Please ignore the rest of my oily un-made up face (what you can see, anyway). And my brows, omg! So messy, but I do not want to overpluck.

I got inspired by a picture of the sunset for this. :)

    No flash

    I joined a video contest!

So I was looking around on youtube tonight, and I realized that a way for me to practice and play around with makeup is to join contests! Of course I don't really expect to win, but I hope to, so I decided after looking around to try one specific contest because it seemed really fun.

I joined BrushingOnBeauty's April makeup contest on youtube.

She had an inspiration picture, and she basically said to take it and do whatever look you wanted. Here is the inspiration picture:

    Here is my entry:

I bet you're getting uber tired of seeing my red headband!

I tried to use all the colors I saw in the pictures, and I think I did it pretty well. It's a bit crazy but oh well, I had looooaaads of fun.

And of course I made a video for it--but I only made a slideshow since it's really late and I was totally too lazy to be talking XD

    For what I used:

FACE Ellana Mineral Foundation in Hazelnut Latte, Ellana Finishing Powder in Espresso Con Panna, Ellana Mineral Blush in Lust, Aziza duo brush for highlight, Physician's Formula bronzer for contour

EYES artdeco eyeshadow base, PAC shimmer palette, Coastal Scents 88 palette, Elianto single shimmer e/s in Ivory, Elianto stay-on eyeliner, VOV eyeshadows, Cinema Secrets glamour eyes mascara

LIPS Cinema secrets rip roaring red 32, the color workshop lipgloss on top

What about you, what's the craziest look you've ever done?

I so totally had fun with this, and I really hope you like it! Until next time. :)
