Doing makeup for someone's big day [+tutorial and haul]

Does anyone get the nervous jitters when they're asked to do makeup for someone's big day as well? My cousin Catherine asked me to do her makeup for her graduation (she's an Octoberian) last Oct 11. Of course, I said yes. How could I say no! The morning of her graduation, she showed me her dress, then we hung out for a bit before she went to get ready so I could go and do her makeup.

I have pictures of the process (ha! I didn't forget to take pics this time :D), so this could also serve as a tutorial.

I think I did pretty okay!

For the eyes, I used again my Shawill palette #1, as in the photo below. The colors I used (in order) were #5, #12, and #7.

First I started by priming her eyelids. I used UDPP for this step. Then, I took a fluffy eyeshadow brush and applied color 5 to half her eyelid, from the inner corner and stopping at the middle. I went a little above her crease for this one so the pink would show just a bit when her eyes are open.

Next I took color 12 with a crease brush and applied it to her outer v. Using a fluffy blending brush, I blended it into color five on her eyelid and went a little above her crease to darken her socket.

We both decided that since it was a formal event we would lessen the amount of pink that showed so we added more of color 12 , blending over the pink.

Taking a fluffy eyeshadow brush, I applied color 7 as a highlight under the brow and on the inner corners of her eyes. Then I lined her eyes with Coastal Scents gel eyeliner.

After I curled her lashes and applied mascara, I put color 12 on her lower lashline, smudging some gel eyeliner on top. Then I put mascara on her lower lashes.

I don't remember what else I used on her face, but I used Shawill lipgloss for her lips (layered on top of Prestige lipstick in plum). I do know that the white cast in photos was caused by The Face Shop primer in green, but it went away after a while, thankfully!

I discovered it's really tough for me to do someone's makeup (maybe because I'm so used to putting makeup on myself. I'll get the hang of it soon enough with practice, though! :D

And yes, she did her own hair. I don't have the tools or the talent/skill to do hair, since mine is hopeless and I just always tie it up in a bun. Lol. But I'm thinking about investing in a good flat iron. Any suggestions? Not more expensive than $30-$50 I hope.

Anyway. Today was an adventure for me and my cousin Jen, we had fun just looking around and shopping for makeup! We caught wind that there would be a bazaar at Rockwell, so we went together. And true enough, there was a bazaar, but it opened at 2 pm and we were already there by 10am to avoid traffic. So we ended up taking a cab to SM Megamall (3-day sale of up to 50% off!) and wandered around in the cosmetics department. I bought a few things there, some of which I'm already loving even just now.

From L-R: Nivea lip care in cherry, Himalaya Herbals gentle face wash cream (freebie), Himalaya Herbals neem face pack (mask). The rest are freebies and a dental mirror, lol. It was going for $1 and I just had to get it.

At 1:30 PM, we went back to Rockwell (after we had lunch) to check out the bazaar. We were disappointed when we saw there was a P100 entrance fee because we didn't hear about it, but we paid and went in.


Here is the Charm brush I bought from Beauty and Minerals for 750PHP (bazaar price). I'm going to do a review on it soon.

Green party look tutorial

Today was a great day, despite the fact that it was still stormy and rainy and of course, gloomy. I'm still procrastinating, but I'm having loads of fun doing it so I feel a lot better and much less stressed. We all need a break, right?

Since my dad arrived home from the province in June, we have practically been going out every weekend. Today my parents (and brother) and I went to SM North Edsa, a mall I practically grew up in (as it is rather close and accessible to my home). I wasn't supposed to, but the power went out so what the heck was I supposed to do at home? I had a party to go to but I had to cancel (sadly).

So when I got home, I decided to play with makeup and make a tutorial of the look I would have worn out tonight. Here's the look:



Playing with makeup made me feel much better! And I was glad to see my eyes were actually even today (neither one was puffy) because I got the right amount of sleep last night. More than actually, since I slept 12 hours. LOL.

Anyway, moving on to the tutorial! Haha.

First and foremost, prime your eyelids! Of course this step is optional, and you can use whatever shadow base/primer you want but today I used Urban Decay's primer potion (courtesy of Noia). It was my first time working with it and let me just say I love it--wow finally getting on the bandwagon right? LOL. Now I gotta find where I can buy it for cheap. x.x

And now for step 2! Get Mineraux's eyeshadow in soft green (by the way Mineraux's website is finally up! The whole month of July everything is off 20% so take advantage of the sale!!). Using your favorite eyeshadow brush, pat and sweep it onto your eyelid up to the crease.

Using a pencil brush, also put soft green on the lower lashline.

Then grabbing a crease brush, get a good amount of Jesse's Girl eyeshadow (shown below) and sweep it onto your outer V and crease.

Blend out any harsh lines, bringing the color above the crease. (Yellow line on below image shows where eyeshadow was applied)

Using a fluffier eyeshadow brush, get a good amount of Jesse's Girl eyeshadow (shown below).

Sweep the eyeshadow lightly under the brow and into the inner corner as highlight, again blending out any harsh lines.

Next, line your eyes and apply mascara.

And we're done! Now for the rest of my face. :)





On my face I used Celeteque facial moisturizer as base and Ellana Minerals foundation in hazelnut latte and finishing powder in espresso con panna. On my cheeks I used Mineraux blush in raspberry. On my lips I used PAC lipstick in misty brown.

Wow, I can't believe it. I've only been blogging for a month (a little bit more maybe) and already I've met so many friends, learned so many things, got so many sweet encouraging comments and good advice.

Anyway, moving on, today I got home to find that Noi's package finally arrived. She was so nice, sending me the sample of UDPP that she got for free along with the stuff that she bought. She also included something else--and I swear it's like she reads minds!

So pretty! I love the card stock that she wrapped the (bubblewrapped) stuff in. And the sticker! 

And the contents:

Citre Shine anti-frizz spray laminator. THANK YOU for this, Noi, my hair has been so frizzy lately and I'm just needing something for my hair. This is perfect, I'll use it with my serum. :)

And of course the UDPP sample, 2.66mL. My first ever Urban Decay anything!

So on my previous post, I mentioned that I was stuck as school when I really wanted to go to the parlor with my mom and aunt instead. Well turns out I got to go anyway--my aunt and mom were there from 12pm to 8pm (I got there at 6). I got to get a facial done...and my nails done! Can you believe I found a place where they do nail stamping? The moment I saw a Konad polish I was like. O_O!! I gotta get that done. Heheh, so now I have got pretty nails~

Butterflies.

As usual, polish chipped almost immediately. But that's just because I really am just so rough with my hands. I need to find a good long-wearing polish that won't chip so fast on me. 

Gia told me that there are Konad stamping sets available here. My initial reaction was "OMFG REALLY?!?" because she told me that it was pretty affordable for the basic set. I asked her to accompany me to the place...so we'll see how that goes. :)

Also... here's a completely unrelated disgusting story that happened to me today.

I was on the jeep home, and this guy that sat beside me just had the most HORRIBLE B.O. I think he realized that I could hardly breathe (well, I had my hand covering my nose), and I think he either got annoyed or has a weird thing about people smelling his funky B.O. because he kept holding onto the hand railing on the ceiling of the jeep, thus of course making the odor more...strong, I guess? Gosh, I really wanted to tell him to please stop sticking to me and practically rubbing his armpit to my face (I was next to him) but I just bent over and looked somewhere else so that the smell wouldn't be that bad.

Have you had bad experiences like that while taking public transportation? :/
